Here at DFC, we disciple children through child-friendly activities while also making space for the to grow and integrate into our church activities. Here are some examples of what you can expect when joining our church for services or activities:

Early Childhood

Babies, toddlers, and preschool age children are always welcome at our church. From our worship services to our nursery, we want parents and children to feel free to worship together.

However, during all regular services, we provide nursery care for babies age 0 – 24 months. Toddler Church is available for children age 2 – 4 every Sunday morning at 10:30am in the children’s wing. During toddler church, your child will engage with Bible stories through media such as music, art, games, and crafts targeted for his or her specific age group.  In addition, our nursery and preschool staff are trained to follow specific safety standards to ensure that your children are well cared for while you attend services or discipleship activities.

Children age 5 – 11 are welcome to join our Children’s Church each Sunday at 10:30am in the children’s wing. During their time together, our older children engage with the Scripture through team games, compassionate ministry projects, drama, art, and a dedicated lesson time. Our lessons are often unit based and have included titles such as: Lego Prayerland: An Adventure Into the Lord’s Prayer, Under Construction: A 7 Week Series in Philippians, and Easter’s Coming!, etc. We recognize that children have different learning styles and we aim to help students interact with scripture in ways that are both memorable and engaging.

Children’s Church is available 3-4 weeks per month, with the final Sunday of each month dedicated to family worship in the main sanctuary. When in the sanctuary, our Kid’s Station in the back right of the room is stocked with Kid’s Sermon Notes sheets and supplies to help your child engage with the worship service in a meaningful way.

Additional compassionate ministry opportunities created to help students live out their love of God by loving others, are built into our weekly time together or offered at additional times throughout the year. These projects help students care for their local community as well as the wider world. Examples of projects include: Serving dinner at the Dothan Rescue Mission, making dolls for children in Guatemala, or packing non-perishable meals to be served in Zambia.

We also provide discipleship time for your children through Sunday School classes. Each class begins at 9:15am in the family life center next to the church. While you and your older children are attending class, nursery care is available for children up to 24 months of age. Toddlers age 2-4 are engaged in a series called Worship & Play specifically geared to help them transition from a nursery environment to a classroom setting. Children ages 5-11 are studying the books of Matthew and Acts through Bible Quizzing.

We seek to engage with and minister to your whole family when you join us at DFC. Families are central to what we do in children’s ministry. We will do all we can to creatively and faithfully disciple your children to love God and others, but we have a limited amount of time to do so each week. We want to partner with you as parents to help you make the most of the time you have with your children, to develop your child’s faith so that it will stick as he or she grows. We do this through family oriented events and projects meant for all ages. In addition, each week your child will come home with a card or sheet created with the purpose of providing points of contact and engagement throughout the week that will help your whole family discuss, learn, and seek God together.
